Some Thoughts on Unity (Rick Lovall)

Ephesians 4 3 Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. 4 There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling; 5 One Lord, one faith, one baptism, 6 One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.

 

13 Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ:

 

Paul speaks of “unity of the Spirit” and “unity of the faith”. We cannot be in the unity of something we do not both possess. Unity cannot just be declared. It must be something we pray ourselves into. We are taught to build up our "most holy faith" by praying in the Holy Ghost. To be filled with the Spirit, we must pray in the Spirit. If we are going to be in the unity of the Spirit, we must be filled with that Spirit. If we are going to be in the unity of the faith, we must share the same faith.

Prayer is the key to unity because it removes human agendas and flesh-based wills. United, Spirit-filled prayer will change the world by changing the hearts of those who are praying first.

Furthermore, verse 13 refers to the unity of the knowledge of the Son of God. We must know and believe the same things about Jesus. If one of us believes He is God in the flesh, but the other believes He is the second person in a trinity...then we are not in unity of the knowledge of the Son of God.

Gentlemen, there is a huge push for unity within the "Christian" world today. Everyone says they want to be united. However, there is a huge problem with wanting to be united, and wanting to believe the same thing. Be very, very careful what spirits you are uniting with. Be very, very careful what faiths you are uniting with.  

Let's all make sure we are praying fervently with a repentant heart, making sure we following the instructions of Paul.
